Instagram MCP

Connect your Instagram Professional account to your AI assistant.

  1. Sign in to this service

Sign in on the account page using an allowed email. The service account and MCP token are separate from your Instagram login.

  2. Connect your Instagram account

You need an Instagram Business or Creator (Professional) account. A personal consumer account and Facebook Page access token are not supported. In Meta for Developers → My Apps, create or select your app and add the Instagram API with Instagram Login use case. In its Instagram API setup, add your Instagram account, grant the permissions you need, and generate a long-lived user access token. If Meta requires an app-role/tester invitation, add the account in App Roles and accept the invite in Instagram’s Apps and websites settings before generating the token.

Paste the long-lived Instagram user token into Connections and choose only the optional write permissions you need. Basic profile/media access uses instagram_business_basic. Publishing needs instagram_business_content_publish; managing comments needs instagram_business_manage_comments; messaging needs instagram_business_manage_messages; insights need instagram_business_manage_insights. Meta app review and advanced access may be required for users outside app roles. The server cannot bypass Meta review or access rules.

Do not paste an app secret, app ID, Facebook Page token, short-lived token, password, or browser cookie. Follow Meta’s Instagram Login setup guide. Replace an expired/revoked token in Connections; revoke it in Meta or Instagram when disconnecting. Instagram may refresh eligible long-lived tokens automatically.

  3. Create a personal MCP token

In Access tokens, create a named token, choose read-only or read/write and an expiry, and copy it once. This credential authenticates your MCP client; it is separate from your Instagram user token. Revoke it from Access tokens if exposed.

  4. Configure your MCP client

    Use remote Streamable HTTP at:

    https://instagram-mcp.sherwoodcallaway.com/mcp

Set Authorization: Bearer <YOUR_PERSONAL_MCP_TOKEN>. Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport http instagram https://instagram-mcp.sherwoodcallaway.com/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer <YOUR_PERSONAL_MCP_TOKEN>"

For another client, add that URL as a remote Streamable HTTP server and configure the same bearer header. OAuth-only clients are not supported by this bearer-token route. MCP Gateway is optional.

  5. Verify and manage access

Reload tools, call search for account_status, then execute it. Confirm it identifies your connection before trying other read operations.

    • 401 Unauthorized: verify the MCP bearer token; create a new one if expired or revoked.
    • Provider token rejected: confirm it is a long-lived Instagram Login user token for a Professional account, then replace it in Connections.
    • Permission error: add the corresponding Instagram permission in Meta and reconnect with a token carrying it.
    • Missing messages: messaging permissions and Instagram message controls apply; the recipient must initiate the conversation and Meta response-window limits apply.
    • Publishing failure: verify content format and app review/access status in Meta.

Disconnect Instagram and revoke MCP tokens from the account page. Revoke the provider token through Meta/Instagram as well.
